7 Best Pool Design Software Tools For Pool Builders In 2026

An honest comparison of pool design software, with published prices and who each tool fits.

7 Best Pool Design Software Tools For Pool Builders In 2026

If you build pools, "pool design software" can mean five different things. Some tools are 3D drafting programs your designer runs on a Windows PC. Some are plan libraries. Some are web tools that sit on your website and let homeowners design a pool and see a price on their own. They solve different problems, and picking the wrong kind is an expensive mistake.

This guide compares seven options for pool builders and pool designers, using what each vendor publishes on its own website. Full disclosure: we make QuickPoolQuote, so it is on the list. We tried to describe every tool fairly, say where each one is weaker than the others, and flag anything we could not verify. Prices and features below were checked on November 3, 2026 and change often, so confirm with each vendor before you buy.

The short version

  • QuickPoolQuote: best for builders who want homeowners to design a pool on their real backyard and see a price from the builder's own pricing, on the builder's own website.
  • Scapely: best for package or model builders who want design, quotes, contracts and deposits in one web platform.
  • Canibuild: best for builders who care most about parcel, zoning and setback data and permit-style site plans.
  • PoolPlans: best for builders who want a library of ready-made gunite plan sets.
  • Pool Studio and Vip3D: best for design staff who need detailed 3D drawings and construction documents on a Windows desktop.
  • SketchUp: best for flexible general 3D modeling on a small budget, if you have someone who can model.
  • PoolTemplates Pro-Suite: best for builders who live in Excel and want estimates and proposals in the same workflow.

Side-by-side comparison

The two columns that matter most for lead generation are whether a homeowner sees a price and whether the tool captures the lead on your own website.

1. QuickPoolQuote

QuickPoolQuote is a design tool that goes on a pool builder's own website. A homeowner enters their address, sees their lot, designs a pool and spa, picks materials from a catalog of the suppliers you work with, and gets an itemized price built from your own pricing. You get their name, phone, email and address along with the design. The idea is that the homeowner does the early design and pricing work before the first call, so your consult starts at the details.

Key features

  • Homeowner designs a pool and spa on their real backyard, with lot lines shown where parcel data is connected (see instant lot lines by state).
  • Material catalog from the suppliers you work with.
  • Itemized estimate from your own pricing menu, confirmed at your site visit.
  • Lead capture with the design, equipment and materials attached.
  • Live on your website in about 24 hours.

Best for

  • Pool builders who want more qualified leads from their own website.
  • Sales teams that spend hours on early design and quoting for homeowners who never buy.

Pricing

  • Tier 1 is $495 a month or $4,752 a year (20% off for annual billing), with 100 leads a month included and no setup fee. Extra leads come in packs of 50 for $199. See pricing.
  • Tiers 2 and 3 (branded proposals and construction plans) are coming soon.

Pros

  • The homeowner sees a price built from your pricing, so there are fewer surprises at the site visit.
  • The lead arrives with a design, not just a phone number.
  • Fast setup and no setup fee.

Cons

  • It is a customer-facing sales tool, not a drafting program. It does not replace detailed construction drawings.
  • The price is an estimate, not a bid. Final pricing is confirmed on site.
  • Lot lines depend on parcel data coverage, so they are not available everywhere.

To see how it works, read how QuickPoolQuote works or try it on a real backyard.

2. Scapely

Scapely is a web platform for pool builders with three modules: Studio, where a homeowner designs and prices a pool on the builder's site; Sales, for quotes, proposals, e-signature and deposits; and Build, for takeoffs and job costing, which the company labels a prototype.

Key features

  • Live price range with an email gate to reveal the exact price, and a price hold.
  • Public or private pricing mode.
  • Integrations with accounting, CRM and e-signature tools.

Best for

  • Builders with a fixed set of pool models or packages who want one platform from design through contract.

Pricing

  • Founding pricing listed on its site: Studio $399 a month, Sales $499 a month and Build $999 a month, each including 50 pools a year, with per-pool fees above that, plus a one-time $2,500 onboarding fee.

Pros

  • A broad suite that covers design, quoting and contracts.
  • Published pricing.

Cons

  • Its own site states that it does not detect property lines, setbacks, easements or code compliance, so the builder remains responsible for site checks.
  • Pricing is based on models and packages rather than the specific lot.
  • A newer company, with some modules still labeled prototype.

3. Canibuild

Canibuild is a site-feasibility platform. A user enters an address and gets parcel outlines, zoning, setbacks and buildable area from public data, along with site plans and permit-style documents. Its ShowLot widget lets a visitor place a design on their parcel and sends the inquiry to the builder.

Key features

  • SiteCheck: instant feasibility by address, with real parcel and rules data.
  • ShowLot: a lead widget for a builder's website.
  • Site plan documents, quotes and proposals, and CRM integrations.

Best for

  • Builders who want strong parcel, zoning and setback data and help with permit paperwork.

Pricing

  • SiteCheck plans list at $225, $295 and $495 a month, with caps on address lookups. ShowLot pricing is not published and goes through a demo.

Pros

  • Real parcel and setback data across many areas.
  • Permit-oriented tools beyond sales.

Cons

  • In a builder's pool widget we tested in October 2026, the catalog showed "price on request" rather than a price. Ask the vendor whether a homeowner-facing price can be configured.
  • Lookup caps on the published plans and no public ShowLot price.
  • The vendor notes that its data can be outdated or incomplete.

4. PoolPlans

PoolPlans sells ready-made, construction-ready plan sets for gunite pools, per plan, along with a builder subscription that includes an embeddable plan library and an image tool that places a design on a yard photo.

Key features

  • A searchable library of stock pool plans by style, shape and features.
  • Technical packs with blueprints and 3D renderings.
  • A builder embed with lead capture, according to the vendor.

Best for

  • Builders who want to save drafting time with stock gunite designs.

Pricing

  • Amounts were not shown on the subscription page when we checked on November 3, 2026. Check the vendor's site for current prices.

Pros

  • Fast access to finished plans.
  • Concrete and gunite focus.

Cons

  • A catalog of stock designs rather than a site-specific design with your pricing.
  • We did not find a build-cost estimate for homeowners, and we could not verify how the embed behaves on a live builder site.

5. Pool Studio and Vip3D

Both are products of Structure Studios. Pool Studio is desktop 3D software for designing custom pools, equipment layouts and presentations. Vip3D is the larger suite that adds more advanced terrain, drafting and rendering. They are built for design staff, not for homeowners.

Key features

  • Custom pool, spa, waterfall and deck design with plumbing and equipment layouts.
  • Dimensioned plans, cross sections and printable construction drawings.
  • Renderings, video and 360 views. Vip3D adds CAD export and VR.

Best for

  • Designers who produce detailed drawings and polished presentations.

Pricing

  • Pool Studio: $147 per user per month, or $125 billed annually. Vip3D: $197 per user per month, or $167 billed annually. Both have a one-time $95 setup fee and a 30-day trial. GIS data costs extra.

Pros

  • Deep design and drawing capability.
  • Month-to-month, per-seat licenses.

Cons

  • Windows only, and it needs a dedicated graphics card.
  • Run by your staff, so homeowners cannot use it on your website, and it does not capture leads.
  • A learning curve for new users.

6. SketchUp

SketchUp is a general-purpose 3D modeling program from Trimble. It is not built for pools, but many designers use it with extensions and their own models.

Key features

  • Flexible 3D modeling, 2D documentation and a large extension library.
  • Plans for iPad and web (Go), desktop (Pro) and advanced visuals (Studio).

Best for

  • Designers who already model in 3D and want a low-cost, flexible tool.

Pricing

  • Billed annually, per user per month: Go $10.75, Pro $33.25, Studio $71.58.

Pros

  • The lowest entry price on this list.
  • Large community and model library.

Cons

  • No built-in pool, plumbing or pricing logic.
  • Needs modeling skill, and there is nothing homeowner-facing.

7. PoolTemplates Pro-Suite

PoolTemplates Pro-Suite is an add-in for Microsoft Excel that combines pool design views with estimates, proposals, contracts and job schedules.

Key features

  • 3D, 2D and plan views with renderings.
  • Estimates, proposals and contracts in a spreadsheet workflow.
  • Customizable price and form data.

Best for

  • Builders who already run their business from Excel on Windows.

Pricing

  • The vendor describes a one-time cost with no monthly fees, but does not publish an amount. Contact them for a quote.

Pros

  • One-time cost model.
  • Estimate and proposal in one workflow.

Cons

  • Windows and Office dependent, and run by staff rather than homeowners.
  • No lead capture on your website.

Software for builders vs tools for homeowners

You will also see consumer apps that turn a backyard photo into a pool picture. They are fun and can help a homeowner picture the result, but they do not know your pricing, your materials or your lot. A homeowner who falls in love with an app image still needs a real design, a real price and a builder. For a closer look at the gap, read pool cost calculator vs pool design software.

The tools above fall into three jobs. Drawing tools (Pool Studio, Vip3D, SketchUp, PoolTemplates) help your staff produce plans. Plan and site tools (PoolPlans, Canibuild) supply designs or site data. Customer-facing sales tools (QuickPoolQuote, Scapely, and Canibuild's widget) put design and pricing in front of homeowners on your website. Many builders use one of each rather than choosing a single winner.

How to choose

If your problem is not enough qualified leads

Look at the customer-facing tools. Ask each vendor three things: does the homeowner see a price, whose pricing builds it, and does the lead arrive with the design attached? For the logic behind this, see contact forms vs instant estimates.

If your problem is design speed

If your designers spend days on drawings, a drafting tool or a plan library saves time. If they spend hours on early concepts for homeowners who never buy, letting the homeowner do that part may save more.

If your problem is permits and site data

Parcel and zoning data tools are worth a close look. Check how current the data is in your counties, and what the vendor says about accuracy. See pool construction plans for what a permit package needs.

Match the cost to your volume

A per-seat tool costs the same whether it brings you a job or not. A per-pool or per-lead model scales with activity. Work out what a closed pool is worth to you, and how many extra consults a tool needs to produce to pay for itself. Pool design software cost walks through the math.

Common questions

What is the best pool design software for pool builders?

It depends on the job. For detailed drawings, a desktop tool such as Pool Studio or Vip3D fits. For capturing leads with a design and a price on your own website, look at a web tool such as QuickPoolQuote or Scapely. For parcel data, look at Canibuild.

Is there free pool design software?

There are free and low-cost consumer apps, and SketchUp has low-cost plans, but few are made for builders and none that we found put your pricing in front of a homeowner. Free tools usually cost you time instead.

Can homeowners use pool design software themselves?

Yes, if the tool is built for it. Desktop programs are not. Web tools that embed on your site let homeowners design on their own, and you get the lead.

How accurate are online pool prices?

They are estimates. The most useful ones are built from your own pricing menu and itemized, and are confirmed at your site visit. See what a pool estimate includes.

How much does pool design software cost?

From the vendors' own pages: desktop design tools run from about $11 to $197 per user per month, web platforms from about $225 to $999 a month, and QuickPoolQuote starts at $495 a month with 100 leads included. Prices change, so check each vendor.

Do I need more than one tool?

Often yes. A drawing tool and a customer-facing tool do different jobs. Start with the one that fixes your biggest bottleneck.
