How To Follow Up On A Pool Lead: A Simple 5-Step Process

Most pool leads are not lost because the builder was bad. They are lost because the first conversation felt generic. Here is a simple process that keeps follow-up personal without taking much time.

1. Read before you call

Take two minutes to look at what the homeowner gave you: the address, the design, the features they chose and when they want to build. Know what they are picturing before you dial.

2. Call as soon as you can

A homeowner who just finished designing a pool is thinking about it right now. Reach them while it is fresh, ideally the same day. If you miss them, leave a short voicemail and send a text or email so they can reply on their own time.

3. Open with their pool, not your pitch

Start with something specific, such as "I saw you added a spa and a baja shelf." It shows you looked, and it moves the conversation from sales to planning. Then ask one question about what matters most to them.

4. Book the site visit with a purpose

Do not just ask whether they want a visit. Tell them what you will do: confirm measurements, check access and go over the design and price. A clear reason makes it easier to say yes.

5. Follow up in writing, then set a cadence

After the call, send a short message that recaps what you discussed and the next step. If they go quiet, try again a few days later, and again after a week or two. Then move them to a longer-term list rather than chasing forever.

What to avoid

  • Quoting a final price before the site visit
  • Sending a long email with every option you offer
  • Waiting days to reach out

The more the homeowner has already done before you call, the better this process works. That is why we built a lead email with the design, materials and timeline in it. You can also read how to qualify leads before the site visit.
